BOTOX®Cosmetic
Procedure: For frown lines and crow's feet,
a BOTOX®Cosmetic treatment will block impulses from the nerve
to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines.
The
BOTOX®Cosmetic injection
relaxes the muscles so they don't contract. After treatment, the
overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated
facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial
expression to be unaffected.
Length: 5 minutes
Anesthesia: None
In/Outpatient: Outpatient.
Risks: Temporary bruising is the most common side effect.
In some cases the toxin can migrate and cause temporary weakness of nearby muscles.
In rare cases there can be a temporary drooping of an eyelid or facial asymmetry.
The risk of any side effect depends on the muscles injected. Because the effects
of the BOTOX®procedure are completely reversible, all side effects are only
temporary.
Recovery: Immediate, with minimal restrictions for
four hours.
Duration of Results: Duration
of effects vary from patient to patient, but normally
last from three to six months. So, you will need to have
injections two or three times a year. Clinical studies
indicate that the duration of effects increase over time
so that you should require injections less frequently
in the future.
