What are exosomes?

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that are produced by mesenchymal stem cells which are involved in cell communication.  Other cells react to the messaging signals from the exosomes and will change their behavior accordingly. Scientists are now able to isolate and deliver these beneficial signalers directly rather than the stem cells themselves.

Exosomes are isolated from donated human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells and purified using proprietary processing.  The unique benefit of these exosomes is that they are stem cell-derived and bring a wide array of growth factors. Because they’re so small and nimble, exosomes can remain hidden in the bloodstream, and carry multiple doses of proteins across barriers that cells are not able to cross.

What is exosome therapy for Facial Rejuvenation?

Organicell™ Factor X FacialOrganicell™ Factor X Facial is a non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedure which utilizes Organicell™ Factor X, a proprietary product which has a vast array of regenerative components including exosomes, growth factors, hyaluronic acid, micro RNA and more.

Exosomes are at the forefront of a regenerative medicine breakthrough. Exosomes are naturally present in stem cells. They’re essentially the messengers of the stem cell world. Exosomes travel around your body carrying signals from cell to cell and providing status updates.

Scientists have discovered that when a healthy cell sends an exosome to an unhealthy cell the unhealthy cell can begin to improve and regenerate. Using this basic theory, scientists have found that exosomes may be a better alternative to a stem cell therapy to help speed up the regenerative properties that stem cells already possess.

These components may help to restore both the youthful contour and shape of the face as well as provide a marked improvement in skin quality, tightness and color irregularities caused by the aging process and exposure to the sun and environment.

How long does it take and what is involved?

The Factor X Facial treatment is done in conjunction with a microneedling procedure and takes less than an hour. During microneedling, mini “needles” puncture the skin which causes trauma and this prompts the reticular dermis of the skin to renew and rebuild in a healthier way. This has been shown to improve conditions such as wrinkles, acne, scarring, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation. Microneedling can open up some of the deepest layers of your skin allowing the Factor X exosomes and their growth factors to penetrate as deeply as possible. Rather than just rejuvenating your skin on a superficial level, it helps your skin heal from the inside out!

How long until I see results?

We recommend a series of 3 treatments conducted 30 days apart in conjunction with the Identa-Placenta Peptide after care serum for optimal results. The skin will regenerate itself approximately every 28 days during your treatment regimen. You may start to notice a tightening of your skin, reduction in fine lines and overall smoothness over this time.

How many exosomes are in each vial of Organicell™ Factor X?

For facial rejuvenation, we utilize Organicell™ Factor X which contains 50 plus billion exosomes and 300 Growth Factors per vial.  We have found that an aesthetic grade exosomes product like Factor X is more than sufficient to regenerate the facial dermis.

How are Organicell™ exosomes processed, and are they safe to use?

Organicell™ Factor X which is procured and processed in the United States according to standards and regulations established by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), and the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA). All local donors.

Donor ethics and non-reactive FDA approved serological screening includes:

  • Donor consent prior to collections
  • HBsAG (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen)
  • HBcAb (Hepatitis B core Antibody)
  • HCV (Hepatitis C Antibody)
  • HIV 1/11-Ab (HIV Nucleic Acid Test)
  • HCV NAt (HCV Nucleic Acid Test)

Are exosomes tested for HIV, Hepatitis and other infectious diseases?

Yes. Exosomes are tested for variety of diseases, including HIV, Hepatitis, and others. Each package comes with the tests performed. At the time of procedure Dr. Colgrove opens the package and shows the patient the sheet of all the passed tests.

How are exosome treatments different from PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatments?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. It begins with centrifuging a patient’s blood so we can concentrate the growth factors and platelets naturally present. PRP however does not provide any stem cells or exosomes because as we age our bodies contain less and less stem cells in our blood.

PRP involves concentrating only growth factors and platelets to be injected into the patient or applied after microneedling. Often, patients and sometimes doctors confuse PRP with concentrated stem cells but blood is not the optimal source to obtain stem cells. Originally stem cells would come from fat collected during liposuction. But that process is very labor intensive and not worth the effort especially when considering that stem cells are not as potent as the source patient has aged. Vining Surgery Center now uses Organicell™ Factor X exosomes which are sourced from amniotic mesenchymal stem cells.

How long do they last in your body?

Exosomes enter the cells and unload their message in less than 24 hours, exosomes DO NOT stay in the tissue, it is their miRNA and mRNA that remains with the message.

Can the Patient Take NSAIDS?

No. It is ideal for the patient to stop taking NSAIDS for about 4 days prior to the injection and for 4 days after. A part of the exosomes function is a prostaglandin response which would be inhibited by the NSAIDS. Please note, NSAIDS will NOT destroy the injected cells, just potentially lessen the effects. It is also known that not taking NSAIDS is purely to optimize the final results.

What preparation do I need for the day of the procedure?

Patients are advised to:

  1. Drink a lot of fluid one day prior to the procedure
  2. Have breakfast the morning of their procedure
  3. Avoid Aspirin, Naproxen, Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs 4 days prior to the procedure and 4 days after the procedure.

Are there any restrictions after the procedure?

There are really not many restrictions. Most patients return to work or their routine that day. You can exercise and do your normal routine. It is advised to avoid aspirin, Naproxen, Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs for 4 days following the procedure.
