Silicone Implants vs. Saline Implants

Spread the love
Silicone Implants vs. Saline ImplantsBreast augmentation is the most popular procedure for women seeking to improve the shape and size of their breasts. During your breast augmentation consultation, you will discuss the differences between saline and silicone implants with your surgeon and create a surgical plan that is best suited for your aesthetic goals. Vinings Surgery Center, led by reliable board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove, provides both saline and silicone breast augmentation to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Differences Between Saline and Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants look and feel more natural than saline implants. Saline implants typically are firmer and appear more round and full. The surgical procedure using either of these implants is very similar, with only the incision varying. Silicone implants arrive from the manufacturer pre-filled and require a larger incision to be placed into the chest. Saline implants are inserted into the chest empty and filled with solution after placement, necessitating a smaller incision.

Longevity and Safety

Both saline or silicone implants are expected to be durable, with a similarly expected lifetime. Either type of implant will need to be either removed or replaced at least once during a person’s lifetime. Though it is uncommon, it is possible to have a rupture of the implant, and a saline implant is considered to be safer since the liquid material can be more easily absorbed by the body. On the other hand, a rupture of a silicone implant may cause serious health problems. Rippling and capsular contracture can also be possible risks with either option, though they are much less common. Vinings Surgery Center, led by reliable board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove, provides both saline and silicone breast augmentation to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.
